Research Institute “Atmosphera”
Scientific Research Institute for Atmospheric Air Protection, Joint Stock Company — SRI Atmosphere JSC Location: Saint-Petersburg, Russia SRI Atmosphere JSC is a research and expert institution working mainly in the field of atmospheric air protection. It was established in 1992 in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, as an applied research facility of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation. Since 2016 the Institute functions as an independent and self-sustaining organization covering a range of environmental topics, keeping the key expertise in atmospheric air protection related issues.
Key activities of the Institute include a) drafting technical regulations and guidelines for air emission inventories preparation, setting of maximum permissible emission levels, temporary approved emission limits and technical emission standards; b) compiling local, regional and national inventories of air pollutants (including “classic pollutants” as well as black carbon, methane, mercury etc.); c) drafting recommendations on ecological standard setting (ambient air quality) for national environmentally sensitive territories and natural reserves; d) pollutant emissions assessment, sampling, and analysis; e) modelling air pollutants transport and deposition at local, regional and transboundary levels; f) air pollutant emissions assessment and mitigation related work under international multilateral environmental agreements, multilateral processes, and bilateral cooperation including the UNECE Convention on Transboundary Air Pollution, UN Environment, UNESCAP North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation, ACAP, etc.
